PAULA ROMAN

Paula Roman was born in the charming Seville, south of Spain, surrounded by brave bullfighters and spicy flamenco dancers, though she grew up between there and the exotic Canary Islands, so you can just imagine the free spirit she carries on everywhere she goes my dear fellows.

Her story is quite genuine but as “Brevity is the soul of wit”, let’s try to make the tale short.

She did not grow up going to the theatre or to the cinema as it could be expected for an innate actress. Shockingly she grew up going to the Hospital with her father, a very well recognized heart surgeon in Spain who used to take her to visit his patients on the weekends.

In spite of that since she was a very little girl, she always dreamt and desired to be an actress, without knowing what that really meant. She was just enchanted with the idea of being up there in the big screen or the stage to, like she says, “like a magician, make people dream, wonder, travel, laugh, cry, live…”.

Although her family knew about her secret passion, she wasn’t allowed to go to Drama School. Nobody listened to her, therefore when she was 18 years old she went straight to MEDICINE SCHOOL, where she studied with excellent standing for 6 long years.

Then, when society was ready to call her Doctora Roman, she decided to hang up her lovely Medicine degree in her parent’s living room and pursue her dream. For the first time in her life this Spanish mermaid found the strength, the courage, the determination and the drive like a locomotive to really do it.

The theatre was calling her and she was ready to listen!!! Groucho Marx, one of her biggest inspiration, once said that as well.

She moved to Madrid, against her family wishes changing her destiny for ever. To pay her acting studies and survive in the big city she worked for almost a year as Doctor Roman, she was a first year intern in “The Princess Hospital”.

The Hospital was a real school for her, where she saw, touched and felt the pain and pleasure of others, the broken despair, the fresh hope, death and life every night and every day.

In the summer 2004 Paula made the biggest decision in her short but intense life, she left it all, her family, her friends, her life as a doctor, her country in order to come to New York City, all alone, to study Drama, to face the artist she is and to become an international actress.

Since the first second in the city, since she took a cab from JFk at midnight in the middle of a summer storm, not knowing where she was going to sleep that night, till today, so many things have happened to her and even more to come and she just can say “Following my passion is the best thing I ever did in my life. Learning everyday to survive, to create, to love, to listen, to appreciate and to enjoy life like there is no tomorrow in this magic, but also very hard city”.

Now Paula just moved to Los Angeles to continue pursuing her career in acting and writing.
